1. 1500 Subjects Needed for Paid Decision Making Study
1500 undergraduate students who are at least 18 years of age and ethnically Chinese needed for a 3-hour study on decision making. Participants will receive $80 on average. 2. Survey on Improving Human Flow between faculties in NUS
A group of students from ES2007S module is conducting a study to improve human flow between different faculties in NUS. The proposal is to have a skywalk (similar to a pedestrian bridge) connecting different faculties, for example, from the S1A building in Science to YIH Level 7. This skywalk will be built in a way to minimise slopes and cut down walking time.

FASS Hosts International Conference on Human Trafficking in the Asia-Pacific
Between the 4th and 5th of October, the FASS Migration Research Cluster in conjunction with the Asia Research Institute, hosted an international conference, entitled, “Forcing Issues: Rethinking and Rescaling Human Trafficking in the Asia-Pacific Region”. The conference brought together over 60 international researchers, scholars, and NGO personnel to discuss and evaluate what we know about issues concerning human trafficking and anti-trafficking problems in this region.
The Keynote address was delivered by Dr David Feingold of the Ophidian Research Institute, UNESCO and renowned film-maker.
Discussion panels include (1) methodologies and ethics in human trafficking research, (2) neglected forms of human trafficking, (3) alternative approaches to sex trafficking, (4) victims outside the purview of anti-trafficking, (5) the impact of anti-trafficking on non-trafficked migrants, (6) the anti-trafficking industry, and (7) the media, advocacy and the popularization of human trafficking. Many of the papers presented will be brought together in an Edited Volume.

Prof Makarand R Paranjape Delivers Engaging Lunchtime Talk on Ghandi
On October 1st, Prof Makarand R Paranjape, the inaugural Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Chair in Indian Studies in the South Asian Studies Programme at FASS, delivered an engaging Lunchtime Talk at the Faculty Lounge. The title was ‘Gandhism vs. ‘Gandhigiri’: the Life and Afterlife of the Mahatma on Celluloid.’
Prof Paranjape was warmly welcomed by Emeritus Professor Edwin Thumboo, and then proceeded to talk about Gandhi and his various manifestations on film, sharing some short film clips from various sources – a documentary interview from 1931, Attenborough’s Gandhi and the modern-Bollywood presentation, Lage Raho Munnabhai. There followed a vibrant Q&A session and Indian refreshments.
Professor Paranjape is Professor of English at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. During his one year tenure with the FASS he will teach a module on South Asian Cinema and another on language, culture and identity in South Asia. He will be available for consultation with undergraduates, graduates and faculty.
