This was an article contribution by Assistant Professor Ryan Hong from the Department of Psychology at the NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences in which he discussed whether Singaporean parents are too strict with their children because of their high expectations of them. Asst Prof Hong cited the findings of an NUS research study of primary school children and opined that children need continual encouragement and support in the course of their studies in order for them to reach their full potential.
