Ms Tan Qianhui, currently completing the first year of her Master’s degree in the Department of Geography, won the second prize in an international Student Paper Competition for her paper entitled “Flirtatious Geographies” at the Association of American Geographers (AAG) Conference that took place in Seattle in April 2011.  The judges noted that “the paper is a well-written and empirically based extension of non-representational geographical research to include more overtly political concerns and a re-engagement with representational aspects of social phenomena”.
