Invited by Dr. Sihan Li from the School of Geography and the Environment, University of Oxford, Dongfeng gave an online talk entitled “Reading the story of climate change from fluvial sediment loads: the case of High Mountain Asia”. It was exciting to see UK geographers are also keen on sediment dynamics in High Mountain Asia. There are many interesting questions that were discussed. e.g. the future sediment fate of these Asian rivers under the impacts of climate change (increasing sediment from cold mountains) and also human activities (decreasing sediment to the delta); the possible way for sustainable reservoir design that allows sediment to be passed through the dams (sediment bypassing, strategic planning, run-of-river HPP, ?); policy suggestions for reducing sediment yields from high mountains, etc.
