Yanyun Yan | Research Associate
I am a research associate in the lab. My research aims to promote an understanding of the relationship between humans and nature and propose sustainable development.
In my previous project, I used spatial simulations combined with choice experiments and travel cost methods to see the changes in optimal new green space locations by incorporating human behavior. The work (doi.org/10.1016/j.resconrec.2022.106616) suggested the need to employ a dynamic valuation of ES (ecosystem services), which incorporates the people’s adaptive behavior of ES beneficiaries, to support better sustainable urban planning that maximizes the ES of green spaces.
I’m now in a research team that studies sustainable urban food waste management using black soldier flies. My work focuses on a national survey that aims to understand residents’ perspectives on food waste upcycling and insect feed product purchasing. In addition, we are trying to find out the impact of the different environmental messages on students’ choice of a sustainable diet and food waste generation through a campus experiment. I hope our findings will contribute to sustainable food development and zero-waste target in Singapore.
In my spare time, I am a nature lover. You may run into me with my family in natural spaces across Singapore during holidays.
