The overarching question of the lab is how can we reconcile economic development with biodiversity conservation. This questions involves dealing with complex interactions between ecosystems, social and economic systems. This complexity requires an interdisciplinary approach where ecology is linked to economics and policy analysis. Specific research areas of the lab are: tropical forests conservation, trade-offs between agriculture and ecosystem services and tropical land-use change modeling.
