In view of the importance of neighbourhood friendship (See: Gan & Best, 2021), a team at Simon Fraser University (SFU Gerontology) has been engaging older adults on how their neighbourhoods responded to provide various forms of support through the COVID-19 pandemic. Surveys were conducted with more than 140 older adults via 2 projects with funding from the Canadian Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and SFU Community Engagement Initiative.
These will be followed by in-depth interviews at 7 purposively-selected neighbourhoods to draw lessons for translation across contexts and a pilot 12-week Brian Health program, with the partnership of over 8 community partners (including South Vancouver Seniors Hub and United Way of Lower Mainland).
