Those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer

Summer is upon us! While we are blessed with great tropical weather all year round, we are not talking about that kind of summer… This NUS Res Life blog post is dedicated to the summer break! After a long, hard year of school, every university student is looking forward to a good holiday away from the never-ending assignments and exams. But instead of wasting it away doing nothing, here are some top tips for the most fulfilling summer break of your life!

#1 Try something new

We have nothing but time in summer! Why not use this time to pick up a hobby or try something new? Being active is important for a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Rock climbing at Climb Central Singapore, yoga, and hiking are some examples of fun activities that will get your body moving in the summer!

If you prefer something less strenuous, you could dabble in painting or pick up a new musical instrument! The choice is endless and if you put your mind to it, you will definitely achieve a new skill by the end of summer.

#2 Go on a trip!

Never again will you have so much free time on your hands as you do now! Overseas trips are perfect for the wanderlust soul. Solo tripping or a vacation with friends and family are all options to consider. Trips abroad do not need to be expensive or extravagant. There are many budget flights from Singapore to all around Southeast Asia. Our culturally diverse and relatively inexpensive region awaits you!

#3 Summer school

A number of us will choose to do summer school to clear modules or as an excuse to study abroad. Whatever you do, take the opportunity to make friends, try hard at school, and just enjoy the process.

#4 Get a job/internship

Being a student can be expensive (cue our previous post on drinking too much coffee), so making some extra pocket money in summer would be another effective way to spend your time. A part-time job as a barista or in a fast-food restaurant would be a fun stint, and teach you some skills in multi-tasking and customer service too! Another option would be landing a cool internship that could add to your resume, and could possibly help you make some headway into your dream industry!

#5 Quality time with family and friends

We all get really busy during the school year and may not get to spend enough time with our family and friends. We could all take this time to appreciate our loved ones and have some quality time with them. Take them out for dinner, or even a nice catch-up date!

Summer breaks should be treasured and we should try our best to make our time fulfilling. Here’s to the end of another school year and we hope you have a restful and fulfilling summer ahead – don’t squander it!
