Dr. Tran Thi Mai Oanh

Dr. Tran Thi Mai Oanh is the Director of Health Strategy and Policy Institute (HSPI) since 2013. The Institute has main functions of providing evidence for health policy development and plays consultation role in health system development. Being the Director of HSPI, Dr. Oanh has very rich experience in health policy analysis and health system strengthening. Working at HSPI for over 28 years, she has been called upon to lead and support major transformational health initiatives including: strengthening health system performance, proposing policy options to strengthen health care at grassroot level and health service delivery reform, development of human resources in health, design and implementation of health financing mechanisms, and recently health technology assessment and development of benefit health service package to support the implementation of universal health coverage in Vietnam. She has worked extensively with high-level policy makers (e.g., Health Minister, Vice-Ministers, Deputy Prime-Ministers, Chairman of the Natinal Asseembly Committees) to make the most efficient use of evidence in health policy making in Vietnam. She is member of the Universal Health Coverage Technical Advisory Group of WHO – Regional Office for the Western Pacific for the period 2016-2019.
