Hanging Up My Boots

Hello! It’s nice to have you back!

Unfortunately, this will be the final post on environmental sustainability in the football world. However, I’m really glad to have taken on this topic as it opened my eyes to a lot of issues that a regular fan wouldn’t have thought of.

Even now when new developments are happening in the sport, I still subconsciously think of how it’ll impact the environment. Take the recent announcement that a European Premier League is in works, which would see the biggest clubs from England, Spain, Italy, France and Germany all compete together.

Besides looking at it from a fan’s standpoint (which I think is horrible by the way), I immediately thought about all the additional carbon that would be emitted. Currently, most teams travel by coach which makes sense since the venues are all within a single country. A new European competition would almost certainly eliminate that, with air travel instead becoming the norm.

Time for me to kick back my legs

So while I might’ve hung up my boots, I’ll continue to use what I’ve learnt on future happenings in the football world. Hopefully, you the readers have learnt much as well, and I look forward to seeing you folks on campus soon!
