This is an announcement  on behalf of the University of Birmingham, UK. Please direct your query to them directly  if any.

2014 BIRMINGHAM INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL (BISS)

The theme for BISS 2014 will be British Cultural Heritage. The University of Birmingham is located in the heart of England and is a pioneer in the field of Cultural Heritage. Details for this exciting programme can be found on the BISS website.

The Programme covers the best of British cultural heritage. The students will be able to explore aspects of British art, architecture, literature, music, design and popular culture that form the basis of Britain’s most noteworthy heritage. From Shakespeare’s Birthplace in Stratford on Avon, to the cradle of the industrial revolution at the World Heritage Site of Ironbridge, and from the factories of historic international brands such as Cadbury’s chocolate and Wedgwood china, to experiencing the music of the Beatles and Edward Elgar, the Programme gives students an insight into how great heritage sites were created and a ‘behind-the-scenes’ look at how they are managed.

The Programme does not require prior knowledge of the cultural heritage field. Students can study for either two weeks or four weeks. The four week programme, which runs from mid-July to mid-August, is formally assessed, and is equivalent to an accredited undergraduate course (20 UK credits, 4 US credits, or 10 ECTS) and is delivered by University faculty who are experts in their field.

We welcome students from your university to apply for the BISS. To recognise the highly-valued partnership between our universities, we would like to offer £150 discount towards the programme fees for the students from your university who are eligible for BISS. In addition, we are offering five scholarships of £500 each to outstanding applicants from Universitas 21 partners. We will also offer a further £150 discount for students who apply by 31 March 2014.
