A fuel cell fed with zinc powder as solid fuel

In our latest paper in ACS Energy Letters by Zhang et al., we reported “a redox-mediated zinc-air fuel cell” in which oxygen reduction reactions and Zn oxidation reactions are liberated from the electrode surface and occur inside separate reactor tanks. It could address some critical issues pertaining to the labile zinc anode and sluggish air cathode in zinc-air batteries, and shows great promise for automotive, backup, and stationary power applications.
