Dr. Moonyoung Song | The Red Stone Interviews #9

Dr. Moonyoung Song is an Assistant Professor in the NUS Department of Philosophy. Prof. Moonyoung specialises in aesthetics and the philosophy of art. However, she also has interests in how these fields intersect with other fields, such as ethics, metaethics, metaphysics, and the philosophy of science, or with cognitive science and psychology. As a result, she can teach a myriad of topics, as she does in our philosophy introductory course, Life, the Universe and Everything. She has also instructed courses on the philosophy of art and ethics.

A/P Robert “Bob” Beddor is a President’s Assistant Professor at the National University of Singapore’s (NUS) Department of Philosophy, having received his PhD in Philosophy from Rutgers and BA from Brown. Bob is interested in epistemology, philosophy of language, and metaethics, and has received the NUS Promising Researcher Award for his work. Here, Bob tells us about his time working as a high school teacher back in America and his collaborations with fellow philosophers (including his colleagues in NUS philosophy).

A/P Abelard Podgorski received his PhD in philosophy at the University of Southern California in 2016 and is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the National University of Singapore (NUS). His primary research interests lie in normative and applied ethics, rationality, and epistemology, and he has been granted the FASS Award for Promising Researcher (APR).

A/P Qu Hsueh Ming is the Dean’s Chair Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore’s (NUS) Department of Philosophy, and currently serves as its Head of Department. His research interests lie primarily in the scholarship of David Hume, though he also has interests in the work of Kant and Mary Sheperd. In this interview, Qu speaks about his views on Hume, Philosophy, and diversity, and shares stories from his time completing his Ph.D. from New York University and his undergraduate and B.Phil. from Oxford University.

A/P Neil Sinhababu is an American philosopher and Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore. His work on Nietzsche and Hume can be found in his two books, Humean Nature (2017) and Nietzsche and Morality (2007), as well as journals such as the Journal of Nietzsche Studies, Philosophical Review and Noûs and various edited volumes. He is the owner of several websites such as “War or Car” and his blog “The Ethical Werewolf”, and has been featured by The Washington Post and Vox for his well-known philosophy paper, “Possible Girls”.
