About the study
–
KIDS In View is a novel sentinel surveillance network for the study of childhood respiratory viral infections.
Respiratory infections are a major cause of disease burden worldwide. Young children are a particularly vulnerable group since their immune system is more prone to be affected by viruses, have high levels of contact with other potentially infectious children at home, school and elsewhere, and constitute a population in which maintaining good hygiene is more challenging.
Children attending child care centres, which is a good representative paediatric population to study early childhood infections, will be recruited.
This study will combine routine respiratory syndromic surveillance, molecular diagnostic and parent-led active reporting of childhood symptoms, to provide valuable information on the epidemiology and microbiology of respiratory viral infections circulating in the community in Singapore.
