New Intern – Katie

Hi there readers, I am Katie Tan, the new intern for the NUS Civet Research Team (NCRT), taking over Claudia who has left big shoes for me to fill (I also happen to have tiny feet in real life).

I am an NUS graduate from the class of 2016, with a degree in Life Sciences specialising in Environmental Biology. I dedicated many module credits to learn about and be in nature. I am especially keen on insects and I did research on spiders for the past one year. I have recently picked up bird-watching as a hobby as well. Also, as a NUS Toddycat of the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum, I volunteer my spare time engaging the public via trips to the forests with Love MacRitchie and show-&-tell booths at events such as Festival of Biodiversity (FoB). For this month, I am excited to head off to MAD for Musang! trip, which is part of the many activities of Pesta Ubin 2016. (Fingers crossed for my first real-life encounter with the magnificent civet!).

As an NCRT intern, I am tasked with managing the social media sites, including this blog and our Facebook account. I will also be assisting in the team’s research on civet activity. Through this internship, I hope to learn more about the civets and other mammals living alongside us in Singapore, as well as to be a voice for these elusive elegant creatures.
