Prof. Reynaldo Clemana Ileto’s book, Pasyon and Revolution: Popular Movements in the Philippines, 1840-1910, is selected as one of the most influential books on Southeast Asia by the Editorial Team of SOJOURN: The Journal of Social Issues in Southeast Asia and its International Advisory Panel in an exercise to mark the 40th Anniversary of the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS).
Altogether, forty-five books were nominated but fourteen works were selected as most influential on grounds that they have: influenced theory formation and/or empirical perceptions in Southeast Asia; continued to serve as pivotal reference points for contemporary scholars; and transcended the period they were written in.
Congratulations to Prof. Ileto who also appears to be the only non-Western scholar to make the list.
