Eugene’s RVRC Story

The student blog team is doing a series of #myRVstory where residents share their #whyRV and their favorite parts about RVRC! Here’s Eugene’s story!

Chill Vibes
I didn’t really get a say in which RC to apply to because the decision to stay on campus was a last minute one, and at that time, RVRC was the only RC taking in last minute applicants. But after I started staying in during my first sem, I fell in love with the place because of its really chill vibes. Having a cluster of blocks located together instead of just one block meant having a number of study and supper/chill spots to choose from. One of my best memories will definitely be going on night walks through the college to the nearby 7/11, grabbing some supper and just chilling with my friends at one of the many tables till late at night.

Near to everything
This is also another thing I really love about RVRC, its location! RVRC is within walking distance to the stadium, the exam venues, the faculty of engineering, and the Central Library. I even get to nap every day in between lessons because of RVRC’s close proximity to my faculty. It is also a short walking distance to the Yusof Ishak House food court, science canteens, and the Faculty of Arts canteen, you’ll be spoilt for choice as to where to go for meals with friends. Also, we’re just a direct bus ride away from Holland Village 😉

New experiences
RVRC also advocates work-life balance, supporting the students’ interests outside of studies. Thanks to the support of the college, I managed to form a Coffee Appreciation Interest Group with a few other coffee enthusiasts where we would have weekly coffee brews and chill sessions. It is also through RVRC’s “Workplace Readiness” module and the welcoming culture of interest groups here that I got to learn new sports like dodgeball, rock climbing and tchoukball. This whole experience of living and learning together with friends on campus has really been my biggest takeaway in my uni life and I really encourage everyone to seize this once in a lifetime opportunity
