6 Fun & Free Activities To Do This Semester

Looking for some leisure activities to do during your downtime? Fret not, you don’t have to travel far anymore to enjoy and have a good time. There are plenty of fun activities in and around campus residences for free. Yes, F R E E!

1) Mid-Autumn Festival @ PGPR

One significant festival in Chinese culture – Mid-Autumn Festival – is just around the corner! It’s the time of the year where families and friends gather under the full moon to rejoice and give thanks for harmony and unity. Join in the celebration at PGPR with fun-filled activities you wouldn’t want to miss, such as carnival games, food and drinks! You will enjoy delicious mooncakes and do the quintessential Mid-Autumn activity of carrying lanterns with your friends, while taking a leisure stroll around PGP.

2) Find Your Inner Peace @ Sunday Yoga

Refresh your mind and body every Sunday morning with NUS Art of Living’s Sunday Yoga! This weekly activity is a good way for both beginners and regular practitioners to relax and rejuvenate after a stressful week, and also an opportunity to make friends with other yoga enthusiasts. These yoga sessions are open to all NUS students and staff, so do try it out, if you haven’t before! Don’t forget to wear comfortable clothes and bring along your friends, water bottle, and your own yoga mat. Get one for $10 at drugstores like Guardian or Watsons, or even supermarkets like NTUC!

3) Be One with Nature @ Botanic Gardens

Take a walk through the lowland rainforest and restored freshwater wetland habitats at the Botanic Gardens with a guided tour organized by PGPR! Discover more about fascinating flora and fauna, and try spotting the famous Tembusu tree, printed on our Singaporean $5 note. There are plenty of foliage and public sculptures which you can take Instagram-worthy pictures with! You might even get to see animals like monkeys, squirrels, snakes and monitor lizards.

4) Swim Away @ NUS’ Infinity Pool

Can’t stand the heat? Take a dip in NUS’s own infinity pool and enjoy a refreshing swim complete with the stunning rooftop view of UTown! Whether you’re playing in the pool or basking on the daybed, this activity can definitely help you bid goodbye to all your stress after a long day in school. Besides, it’s free to enter the swimming pool for all NUS students who paid their sports fee. So go ahead, put on your swimsuit and take the plunge!

5) Live Music @ UTR

If you love discovering new music, be thrilled to know that Rit Xu, an internationally renowned flautist, will be having his one-evening only concert right at the doorstep of UTR. His soothing tunes and quirky improvisations are sure to satisfy your ears and brighten up your day.

6) Community Sports @ PGPR
