PGPR Room Feature

The Prince George’s Park Residences (PGPR) is the largest campus residence in NUS. Located on the eastern end of the Kent Ridge campus, it houses about 3000 local and international students. Its exterior is impressive – for those who do not live at PGPR, the enormous complex may seem like a maze. But walking down the corridors of this massive estate… It tends to pique one’s curiosity. Who lives here? What lies behind this door? Can I see?

This week, the NUS Res Life team has managed to get a sneak peek into one resident’s room! Read on to find out how she has made this generic hostel room her home away from home.

In a country like Singapore, where land is precious and scarce, having your personal space on campus is honestly a luxury. It is comforting to know that you can head back to your own room after a long day at school, without dealing with the stress of commuting, especially during peak hours!

Here are some ways this PGPR resident has made this room the best possible living situation:

  • Keeping your room clean is important to ensure a pleasant living environment. A MagicClean wiper stick and a pack of wet wipes are crucial cleaning tools for anyone staying on campus, and who wants to keep their room spick and span. They are easily available at any supermarket; get them on your next grocery shopping trip!
  • Sticking to a minimalistic theme will also leave your room looking spacious and organised. Avoid cluttering your walls with too many posters, or your floor with too many items.

  • Bringing a piece of home (e.g. a soft toy) to your room will instantly make your room cosier. It definitely adds personality because everyone has a different comfort item. What comfort item do you have in your room? While you’re at it, comfy bedsheets will make your room more homely too!

  • As university students, our desks are sacred spaces in our rooms, as we spend so much time at it. Having a neat and tidy desk will create a more productive environment for focusing on work. Personalising our desks can easily be done by placing photographs, artwork or even quotes that inspire you… Keeping some snacks nearby may be convenient too, for all the times you start feeling peckish. But not too many, those snacks will start to show on your waistline soon enough!
  • Of course, the best part about campus life is the endless array of activities to take part in too! These activities will allow you to meet people from all walks of life, challenge yourself in workshops on subjects like public speaking, career mentoring, and there’s even weekly yoga. Best of all, most of these activities are all completely free for residents! Download the Residential Life app to access more than 80 programmes tailored just for you. Available anytime on the App Store and Google Play as ‘NUS Reslife’. Don’t stay cooped up in your room! Join in the fun!

For those of you who are staying on campus, we hope that this post gave you some inspiration to really make your room (and your residence) your own. For everyone else, maybe you will now consider staying on campus? We’re sure that you’ll find that there’s so much more to discover!
