My name is Timothy, and I work on error correction and fault-tolerance at Ng Hui Khoon’s Group. I am interested in realizable and finite-rate constructions of quantum error correcting codes and finding ways to decode them in a single timestep. I am also interested in the fundamental limits and theoretical bounds on quantum information of QEC’s and any physical descriptions of QEC’s as ordered phases of matter. I am also an NUS alumnus, having completed a bachelor’s degree (hons) in electrical engineering and physics.
Outside of research & physics, I enjoy reading fiction and philosophy, listening to podcasts, documentaries and music, and relearning Chinese. When I am not at home, I love to occupy my mornings with coffee and my afternoons with runs, hikes or picnics.
A piece of wisdom I’ve picked up in my short time in CQT: “Real knowledge is to know the extent of one’s ignorance.” – Confucius
