Title: A Transdiagnostic Approach to Pain
Date: Friday 7 October, 1-2 pm
Venue: AS4/02-08 (Psychology Department Meeting Room)
Abstract:
Most people suffering persistent pain also suffer a variety of other problems e.g. sleep disorders and distress. In this talk I will present our endeavors to identify underlying “transdiagnostic” factors that drive a multitude of problems. Subsequently, I will describe two attempts to intervene that are based on targeting transdiagnostic factors. One of these is a treatment from long term “super” chronic patients while the other is a very early preventive intervention. We will then discuss the virtues and challenges of this approach.
