The Neural Replay Thought Experiment
23 August 2022 (Tuesday), 4pm
Abstract:
In this thought experiment, we record the neural activity (voltage) of all the neurons in your nervous system, and then we replay the activity of all neurons by injecting current into each neuron. Do you still have a mind? Are you still conscious during the replay? I want to assess your intuitions regarding the association between physical and mental processes using this intuitive thought experiment. Link to preprint: https://osf.io/k38pg
Biography:
I am an Asst Prof at the Department of Psychology, the National University of Singapore. My lab is located in the N.1 Institute for Health. My research area is cognitive computational neuroscience. We measure single neuron activity in the brains of non-human primates while they perform tasks. I am particularly interested in cognitive flexibility, in the context of natural general intelligence and artificial general intelligence. This is my lab website: http://libedinskylab.com/
