Dr. Cynthia Siew’s research on word associations in Singapore English (Singlish) was recently featured in a Channel NewsAsia article, “‘You can’t tell people to not speak it,’ says NUS don. But where does Singlish stand now?” (August 9, 2022).

In her research titled “A Small World of Singlish Words: A Word Association Study“, Dr. Siew builds a map of Singlish by having Singaporeans say the first words that come to mind when given a Singlish word such as “kiasu”.
