With support from the Presidents of Singapore’s various local autonomous universities, our very own Associate Professor Stephen Lim (NUS Dept. of Psychology) founded the Singapore National Academy of Higher Education (SNAHE) on 9 October 2020.
SNAHE is a non-profit honorific society comprising of Fellows—like-minded educational leaders from across our universities—who are appointed based on exemplary scholarship relating to university education. Fellows come together for intervarsity dialogues on issues of contemporary higher education, promoting evidence-based teaching and learning, and potentially enhancing policy and practice, nation-wide.
SNAHE’s inaugural panel dialogue “Re(-)cognizing Teaching Excellence in Higher Education Today” attracted the interest of 108 colleagues, and took place on 7 December 2020 via zoom successfully. Moderated by Assoc Prof Lim, the panel comprised Full Professors Brian Farrell (NUS), Hooi Shing Chuan (NUS), Ian McLoughlin (SIT), Pey Kin Leong (SUTD), and Venky Shankararaman (SMU), who discussed pathways of understanding and measuring educational impact in our teaching communities. The audience opined the session to be highly useful, and were inspired to apply the pathways in their own disciplines.
