Hello folks, I am back with another interesting plastic story.
Are you a big fan of lego? Well, I am! I remember building houses, ships, planes and many other crazy structures when I was a kid. There really isn’t a limit as long as you have the imagination when it comes to lego.
BUT! Did you know that in 1997 there was a huge incident whereby 5 million lego pieces were lost at sea? Known as the Great Lego Spill, it is one of the most detrimental toy-related disasters to date where lego pieces can still be found along the beaches of Cornwall (Gamillo, 2022).
As covered by previous posts, these plastic lego pieces would, unfortunately, disrupt the ecosystem in the sea and implicated us indirectly as well. What started off as an innocent fun-filled toy has become a source of an environmental hazard.
