Welcome to Pollut-Versity!

Hello and a warm welcome to Pollut-Versity (my first ever blog)!

Since we will be spending the semester together I figured that I should write a short introductory post about myself and also an overview of my blog and what you can expect!

I’m Naomi, a third-year student from Environmental Engineering and pursuing a minor in Aquatic Ecology which is also one of the reasons I’m taking GE3246 Environmental Pollution! I am a huge animal lover though I wouldn’t say the feeling is mutual as I got sneezed on by a llama, stepped on the feet by an obese pig and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Being an animal lover it then gave me an idea to focus my blog about animals and plants! That was how Pollut-Versity came about.
Pollut-Versity is the combination of 2 words: Pollution and Biodiversity
So what is Biodiversity? The term biodiversity refers to the variety of life on Earth at all its levels. It includes every living thing—from humans to organisms we know little about, such as microbes, fungi, and invertebrates. I believe you might have heard or seen pictures of fish kills due to oil spills, turtles suffocating due to plastic bags, and more. I would, therefore, like to take this opportunity to not only learn more about how different kinds of pollution may affect biodiversity and also at the same time help raise awareness of this pressing issue. I aim to be able to cover different areas of this topic, including the effects of different kinds of pollutions, consequences of such effects, and solutions.
