The submission deadline is 12 noon on the Monday of Semester 2 Week 12.
Instructions
Please submit the soft copy of your report to your supervisor, co-supervisor if any, and two assessors with CC to Ms Koh Siew Lee (phykohsl@nus.edu.sg).
If your supervisor/co-supervisor/assessor prefers a hard copy, please prepare one for him/her (A4 sized, printed on double sides).
Important notes
LENGTH
Your report should have a minimum of 30 pages, excluding appendices.
Appendices is meant more for reference than for reading: e.g. long explicit calculations, programming codes etc. All main results should be described in the main text.
Page numbers should be provided.
FORMAT
The recommended font size is 12, line spacing is 1.5 and margins of approximately 2 cm all-round etc. (Microsoft Word standard).
TITLE
Your project may have evolved in a different direction than initially planned.
If the initial title has little to do with what you have actually done, you can change the title, with the approval of your supervisor.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND CONTINUITY OF RESEARCH
Some materials may not necessarily appear in your report, but should be kept and given to your supervisor, e.g. your computer codes, microscope images, etc.
Please discuss with your supervisor how the data should be managed.
CONTENT
You have the freedom to choose what to include, and you should follow the guidance provided by your supervisor.
However, please take note of the following important points:
Have you devoted a few pages to placing your project in the broader context of your research field, with suitable basic references?
Is it clear from your report what YOU have done? Was that sample prepared by you, or measured by you, or both… or neither?
Is that calculation exactly the same as in a previous work, a new derivation of something known, or something completely new?
Keep in mind that the assessors will like to understand your contribution to give fair assessment of your work.
Did you perform proof-reading to ensure that there are no typographical, grammar and content errors, and that all citations and references are in order?
Did you ensure that the formatting of the content page, main text, figures and tables (along with their labels, numbering and captions) etc. are all done up to the standard required of a proper academic publication?
