NWAV-AP 6 will be held at the National University of Singapore’s Kent Ridge Campus. Most conference events will be held at Shaw Foundation Alumni House (see below for information on the venue for the Wednesday workshops and dining options around campus).

Public Transit

Alumni House is accessible by MRT via Clementi Station (East-West Line) and Haw Par Villa Station (Circle Line). You may travel from these stations to campus by various bus lines. From Clementi Station, please take the 96 bus into campus. From Haw Par Villa, you have a choice of several bus lines, including the 188. Please check Google Maps, Moovit, or Citymapper for more details.

Car or Taxi

Taxis in Singapore are reliable and relatively inexpensive. Please note that Uber does not operate in Singapore; instead, you may use the Grab app to get a taxi or private car. We recommend using a taxi to get from the airport, as getting downtown or to NUS from the airport takes a long time via MRT.

Wednesday Workshops Venue

The workshops on 19/2 will be held at building AS7, which is (confusingly) also called the ‘Shaw Foundation Building’ (as opposed to the Shaw Foundation Alumni House). This building is just a few blocks away from the other venue, on Arts Link. The workshops will take place on the 6th floor, Room 42, the Research Division Seminar Room.

Dining Options

We recommend the following options for lunch during the conference:

On campus:

The Deck: This is a student canteen just a few minutes’ walk away from alumni house with a range of food options, including halal, vegetarian, Indian, Indonesian, Chinese, and salads. The Deck gets extremely crowded during lunch, but the queues move quickly — the vegetarian stall generally has the shortest queue. If you are looking to try local food, the Indian stall, the chicken rice stall, and the yong tau foo stall are recommended. Note that stalls do not take credit cards (locals can use various local cashless payment methods).

Reedz Cafe: Cafe on the ground floor of alumni house. Also likely to be quite crowded during lunch.

Off-campus:

Restaurants on Clementi Rd near Kent Ridge Terminal: These are about 10 minutes away by bus from alumni house. The fanciest of these is Dario Pizza and More, while the rest are cheaper, student-oriented places. There is also a 7-11 convenience store here.

West Coast Plaza mall and hawker centre: These are about 15 minutes away by bus from alumni house. The hawker centre is officially called “West Coast market square.” At the mall, we recommend Jalan Kayu Prata Cafe in the basement and Wicked Greens in the little building in front of the mall. At the hawker centre, we recommend the Chinese porridge stall and the vegetarian noodle stall. If you are in this area for dinner, we highly recommend Island Penang Kitchen, which is a restaurant near the back of West Coast community centre.
