Dr. Guo is a Research Fellow at the Department of Mechanical Engineering in National University of Singapore. He specializes in micro-cutting and micro-scratching of brittle optical materials with a strong interest in understanding the fundamental micro-mechanics behind micro-crack formations and developing innovative solutions to promote deformability in hard and brittle ceramics. His primary speciality is in the adoption of low-intensity magnetic fields to significantly enhance dislocation activity during micro-deformation and micro-cutting of calcium fluoride single crystals. His current research is in post-processing of additively manufactured metal alloys with a focus on internal channel polishing by abrasive flow machining. He also continues to pursue advanced surface treatment technology toward temporal mechanical property alteration of brittle materials for enhanced machinability.
