Since 2005, many out-of-the boxes and creative solutions were born from this Industry-Sponsored Design project. Each semester, 20+ groups of ME undergraduates (year 3 and / or 4) work in a team to tackle specific problem statements from sponsoring companies. Til date, over 200 companies and 400 projects have been completed and companies have implemented the students’ solutions.
Each team, is supervised by a ME academic staff, and will design and build a prototype to demonstrate its proof-of-concept within 1 semester duration (13 weeks). New batch starts every August (Semester 1) and January (Semester 2)
Sponsoring companies can benefit in the following 4 ways:
- Spot potential employees between 1 to 2 years ahead of their graduation; more accurate than pure interview
- Solve their non-urgent technical issues that they lack of resources and / or manpower to tackle
- Get a prototype will demonstrates the proof-of-concept along with engineering report
- Continuous of a one to two years duration project can be achieved by combing with internship and FYP
Examples of Sponsoring Companies are:
