Would you and your child like to take part in a research study conducted by the National University of Singapore? You and your child are invited to participate in the study titled “Word learning by children” if:
- Your child is aged between 4 and 6 years old; and
- You and your child speak English at home at least 80% of the time.
This research study will be conducted entirely online, with you (one parent) and your child. The study, which should take 15-20 minutes in total, has two parts.
- A questionnaire for you to complete (~5-10 minutes).
- A task for your child to complete (~10 minutes). Your child can do this at another time, with you observing. You must have access to personal devices, like a laptop, with working web browsers, speakers, microphones, and webcams.
After you complete the questionnaire, we will email you with more details about this task.
There are no known risks involved. To thank participants who complete the study, we will email you an Amazon gift card (worth S$7 for Singapore-based participants; US$6 for US-based participants) and an information leaflet concerning child development, for your own reference. Gift card amounts will be pro-rated for participants who do not complete the study. If you are willing to provide your child’s name in the questionnaire, we will also email you a personalised certificate of participation with your child’s name.
For details, please refer to the Participant Information Sheet attached below.
If you agree to take part, you can start the study now by clicking the link below, which will direct you to the questionnaire. The questionnaire will open a new tab. Participation is voluntary and you may withdraw at any point by closing the browser window.
