Keynvor’s ‘Preservation’

Hi Everyone!!

Today I will be looking at another collaboration between Sharp’s Brewery and Surfers Against Sewage, similar to the collaboration I had previously mentioned in my ‘Ocean Vinyl’ post. However, the difference being that this time, their collaboration did not use vinyl but rather used digital music to help raise awareness and funds for the environment.

In this collaboration between Sebastian Plano and Universal Music’s Mercury KX label, sounds of the ocean were transformed into music in order to raise money to fight plastic pollution. The track ‘preservation’ was released on all digital music platforms and 100% of the money they received through the streaming and downloads of the song went to the charity: Surfers against Sewage. This organization, as mentioned in my previous post ‘ocean vinyl’, helps to raise funds and awareness for environmental issues, especially plastic pollution.

The ‘preservation’ track was put up on numerous digital music platforms such as Spotify and Apple music which allowed large numbers of people all over the world to listen to it. On Spotify alone, it was streamed close to 300,000 times!! And that’s just one of the many digital music platforms that the song can be streamed on. Imagine the total number of streams this one song would have If we combined all of the different digital music platforms together, and in turn how much of an impact it would make on our environment since each stream is translated into money donated to help plastic pollution.

By taking advantage of its ability to reach a wide audience all over the world, digital music is able to have a positive impact on our environment through raising awareness on numerous issues. I will delve deeper into this idea of taking advantage of digital music to help spread awareness in my next post, so stay tuned for that.
