Reduce Clothing Wastage!

Hello! I will be writing about actions you can do to reduce clothing wastage! According to the a survey done by GreenSpace in 2015,  it showed that at least 40% of the clothes that we own are rarely or never worn (Brodde, 2017). Hence building upon this, we can reduce our purchasing of new clothings through various methods and practice some methods to reduce our pollution output when it comes to fashion. I will be introducing some of these tips below!!

One way is through the clothing rental! Clothing rental is a great way to reduce the purchasing of clothes. Furthermore, this gives clothes a longer shelf life and as it would be worn more times! This creates a more sustainable fashion industry and it will also be less hard hitting on your wallet (Braithwaite, 2018)! Some of these places that you can try out in Singapore include: Style Theory, Mad Threads and Closet Share. Another method is by washing your clothes more efficiently.  For example, for jeans there is no need to wash them after one wash, you can wait for them to be visibly dirty before putting them in washing machine. This ensures that there is no unnecessary washing which can lead to more microfibres being released. Not only that, ensure that your washing machine is filled before washing as with lesser space, the microfibres are less likely to get detached. Finally, do not wash your clothes at high temperatures to keep them in good condition (Gale, 2020).

Lastly, one last method that I suggest would be the usage of a laundry bag that captures microfibres during washing! You can check out this brand if you are interested!!
