Angiogenesis, Cancer, and Inflammation

Ruowen Ge Lab at the Department of Biological Sciences, National University of Singapore (NUS) studies the molecular biology of angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels. In recent years, we have focused on identifying and investigating novel endogenous angiogenesis inhibitor proteins, their roles in physiology, disease pathology, and their therapeutic applications. Three new angiogenesis regulators are identified in this lab: Isthmin 1 (ISM1), ADAMTS4, and ADAMTS5. In addition, we are also interested in developing small peptide angiogenic inhibitors as drugs for angiogenesis-related diseases such as cancer. Recently, we also expanded into the studying of novel endogenous inflammation suppressors and explore their biomedical applications. We have identified a novel inflammation suppressor that plays a critical role in lung homeostasis and inflammatory diseases.
