I and my co-authors are the recipients of the 2023 Grove Karl Gilbert Award for Excellence in Geomorphological Research from the Geomorphology Specialty Group (GSG) of the American Association of Geographers! The G.K. Gilbert Award acknowledges the author(s) of a single significant contribution to the published research literature in geomorphology during the past three years. Our 2021 Science paper titled, “Exceptional increases in fluvial sediment fluxes in a warmer and wetter High Mountain Asia” was nominated for and has received this award. Congratulations!
As the nominators (Amy East, Jim Best, Edward Park) noted, this paper robustly identifies the physical landscape effects of modern climate change through data-supported insights. The combination of our analyses of recent trends in response to warming, projections of future responses, and discussion of the important implications of these changes in High Mountain Asia has resulted in an important contribution to research in geomorphology.
