This was a report on a new book from NUS Press titled Nature Contained: Environmental Histories of Singapore, which offers a view of Singapore’s environment and is edited by Associate Professor Timothy Barnard of the History Department at the NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The book’s premise is that state control of the environment has wrought huge change, for good and ill, on the island’s ecology.
