What is STEER?
The NUS Study Trips for Engagement and EnRichment (STEER) programme is designed to familiarise students with the diverse socio-cultural-political-economic environments of newly emerging markets through a mix of classroom-based learning and experiential site visits. Inaugurated in December 2010, STEER has brought our students to Brazil, China, India, Myanmar, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam.

Italian Government Scholarships for AY 2015-16
The Italian Government has confirmed granting of scholarship to Singaporean nationals of all local Universities for the Academic Year 2015/2016 as part of the Cultural, Scientific and Technological Agreement between Italy and Singapore.
NUS Singaporean graduates are welcomed to apply online for long term (6 or 9 months) Post-Graduate Scholarships after having established a first contact with the Italian University of their choice to explore and identify the course of study they are interested to pursue. The deadline for submitting the applications online is Wednesday, 13 May 2015, 6am (12.00mn Italian time).

Mob attacks against foreigners have spread from Durban to several cities in South Africa. The situation remains fluid.
Singaporeans travelling to South Africa are strongly advised to closely monitor local news and developments. They should avoid areas of public disturbances, be vigilant at all times and observe instructions from local authorities.
Singaporeans are strongly encouraged to eRegister with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at https://eregister.mfa.gov.sg to facilitate contact in the event of an emergency. They should take all necessary precautions for personal safety including purchasing comprehensive travel and medical insurance. Please check with the insurers if in doubt on the terms and conditions of the insurance coverage.

Here’s the opportunity for you to take part in an academic residency and educational study tour, engage in local community service activities, develop leadership skills and interact with American peers through the YSEALI (Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative) Academic Fellowship.

Essential Program Information:
a) Program Funding: This program is fully-funded by the U.S. Department of State and will cover: program administration; domestic and international travel and ground transportation; book, cultural, mailing and incidental allowances; and housing and subsistence.
b) Housing and Meal Arrangements: Housing will be in university dorms or university hotels. Fellows may be expected to share a room and bathroom with another student of the same gender. Most meals will be provided at campus facilities, though Fellows may have access to a kitchen to cook some meals on their own. Care will be taken to ensure that any special requirements regarding diet, daily worship, housing, and medical care are satisfied.
c) Health Benefits: All participants will receive the Department of State’s coverage of $100,000 with a $25 co-pay for the duration of the program. Pre-existing conditions are not covered.
d) Program Requirements and Restrictions: Fellows are expected to fully participate in the academic program. They should attend all lectures and organized activities, and complete assigned readings. Candidates should be made aware that the fellowship is very intensive and that there will be little time for personal pursuits unrelated to the program.

A Message from International Relations Office (IRO)
Dear NUS students,
The DUO-Singapore Exchange Fellowship Award by Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs aims to promote student exchanges between NUS and European ASEM members. The Award, based on merit, funds up to three pairs of students exchanges (3 incoming and 3 outgoing) between NUS and its respective partner university in Europe in any academic field. Each student will be awarded 4,000 Euros, which will partially subsidise the cost of airfare, accommodation, living expenses, etc, for SEP. This award carries no obligatory bond period.

Please note that this deadline applies to ALL students going on exchange in AY 2015/2016. Hence, students going on exchange in semester 1 and/or semester 2 are to apply now.
