You are cordially invited to a FASS lecture Education for a World that Worksby Professor Elizabeth Minnich.

Professor Elizabeth Minnich is a Distinguished Fellow with the Association of American Colleges & Universities and Professor of Moral Philosophy at Queens University. Previously, she served as Dean and Core Professor at the Graduate School of the Union Institute and University.  Her special appointments have included Visiting Scholar, Scholars & Seminars Program at The Getty Research Institute for the History of Art & The Humanities; the Hartley Burr Alexander Chair in Public Philosophy at Scripps College; the Daniel Evans Chair at Evergreen State College; the Whichard Visiting Distinguished Professorship of Humanities and Women’s Studies at East Carolina University; Visiting Distinguished Professor at the University of Hartford; the Carol Zicklin Visiting Scholar in Interdisciplinary Studies at Brooklyn College.  Earlier in her career, she was Associate Dean of Faculty at Barnard College/Columbia University after teaching and serving in various administrative positions at Sarah Lawrence and Hollins Colleges.

The lecture will be moderated by Professor Robbie Goh, Dean Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

Recruitment of NUS Student Ambassadors for APAIE 2018 Conference & Exhibition (25 to 29 March 2018)

Global Relations Office would like to recruit NUS students as student ambassadors to support the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) annual conference and exhibition which will be held from 25 to 29 March 2018 at Marina Bay Sands.

Call for application: University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill- NUS Joint Degree Programme (2016 cohort)

Dear students

Hope you are having a good year end break and hope all went well for your exams.

Starting from 1 January till the 21 January 2017, we are conducting an application exercise for admission for the 2016 cohort to the above JDP. The students that are eligible for this call are those that enrolled at NUS in August 2016. This link will give you more details about the programme. The application details are located here. We also highly recommend that you read through the FAQs as they have the answers to your queries.

The criteria for application is as follows:

  1. A demonstrated CAP of at least 4.0 and above (strict criteria)
  2. Must be majoring in one of these disciplines ( You must have read and pass the exposure module)
    1. Economics
    2. English Literature
    3. Geography
    4. History
    5. Political Science
  3. There must be a recent and official referee letter as part of your application. It can be written by a tutor as well as a professor.
  4. You must pursue Honours
  5. You must stay a minimum of 1 year at UNC for the JDP

There will be an interview process if you are shortlisted. This is likely to be in early February. You will need to be in Singapore to attend this interview to be eligible for consideration.

YSEALI Academic Fellowship: 5-Week Academic Fellowship to America

Dear Students,

Here’s the opportunity for you to take part in an academic residency and educational study tour, engage in local community service activities, develop leadership skills and interact with American peers through the YSEALI (Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative) Academic Fellowship.

Essential Program Information:

a) Program Funding: This program is fully-funded by the U.S. Department of State and will cover: program administration; domestic and international travel and ground transportation; book, cultural, mailing and incidental allowances; and housing and subsistence.

b) Housing and Meal Arrangements: Housing will be in university dorms or university hotels.  Fellows may be expected to share a room and bathroom with another student of the same gender.  Most meals will be provided at campus facilities, though Fellows may have access to a kitchen to cook some meals on their own. Care will be taken to ensure that any special requirements regarding diet, daily worship, housing, and medical care are satisfied.

c) Health Benefits: All participants will receive the Department of State’s coverage of $100,000 with a $25 co-pay for the duration of the program.  Pre-existing conditions are not covered.

d) Program Requirements and Restrictions: Fellows are expected to fully participate in the academic program.  They should attend all lectures and organized activities, and complete assigned readings.  Candidates should be made aware that the fellowship is very intensive and that there will be little time for personal pursuits unrelated to the program.

 

What are the eligibility requirements?

Applicants must be:

  • Between the ages of 18 and 25 at the time of application, although exceptional applicants over 25 can be considered if they meet all other eligibility requirements;
  • A Singapore Citizen or PR from an ASEAN member country
  • A full-time undergraduate student from college, university, or other institutions of higher learning; or have graduated in the past four years;
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English;
  • Not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.;
  • Eligible to receive a United States J-1 visa

 

What are the selection criteria?

  • Demonstrate interest, knowledge, or professional experience  in environmental Issues
  • Demonstrate strong leadership qualities and potential in their university, place of work, and/or community;
  • Demonstrate a commitment or interest in community service, volunteerism, or mentorship;
  • Indicate a serious interest in learning about the United States and ASEAN as a region;
  • Be willing to actively participate in an intensive academic  program, community service, and study tour;
  • Have a commitment to return to their home country to apply leadership skills and training to benefit their community, country, or the ASEAN region; and
  • Preferably have little or no prior study or travel  experience in the United States.
