Greetings from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). We are pleased to inform that our International Summer School (ISS) 2016 will run from 4 June to 26 August. Every year, some 650 students from 35 regions join the ISS to enhance their current field of study and gain an insight into Hong Kong through the weekly field trips. You are cordially invited to join ISS 2016 to gain an academically challenging and culturally stimulating experience in Hong Kong – Asia’s world city.

CUHK International Summer School 2016

The ISS is open to CUHK students, exchange students and fee-paying students from different disciplines and regions. Highlight of ISS 2016 are as follows:

 http://www.osp.cuhk.edu.hk/iss/programme ·      June Session (4-24 June) offers courses in business and China Studies from culture to religion and from tradition to media and social development.
·      July Session (28 June-1 August) has a rich course offering in business, China Studies, Chinese language (Putonghua and Cantonese), engineering, environmental studies, humanities and social science. An optional Beijing tour (3-6 August) is also available to those wanting to explore the capital.
·      August Session (5-26 August) challenges students with intensive Putonghua and English training over a three-week period. Field trips to Macau, Shenzhen or different cultural sites in Hong Kong are organized for language practice.

Students will:

  • Discover Hong Kong – a place with unique colonial history, diverse culture and East-meets-West character
  • Explore CUHK – the greenest and largest campus in Hong Kong
  • Take courses taught by outstanding academics from CUHK and overseas universities from 14 countries
  • Learn and live alongside some 650 academic achievers from a diverse range of backgrounds and cultures
  • Engage in open discussions in an internationalized learning environment

Joint Summer Programmes with Peking University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University

In the CUHK-Peking University Joint Summer Programme* and the CUHK-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Summer Programme*, students will examine important issues facing China, including its economy, food safety, environment, government and politics, human resources, and law. After participating in the CUHK ISS June Session in Hong Kong, students may choose to take part in the Peking University summer programme for a two-week/four-week study, or the Shanghai Jiao Tong University summer programme for a five-week study. In both programmes, students can take a Chinese language course and explore contemporary China through cultural and social activities in Beijing and Shanghai.

*International students from CUHK’s exchange partners will receive a fee reduction of RMB1,400 (which includes a waiver of the application fee at RMB400 and a tuition reduction at RMB1,000) for their participation in the Peking University / Shanghai Jiao Tong University summer programme. Please register by 31 March 2016 to enjoy this preferential offer.

2016 Hokkaido University Summer Institute

Any students on the FlexProgram are considered Hokudai students so you are allowed to take the classes at no extra cost. FlexProgram students who are here for the spring semester (April-August) can take them.

NUS-in-Yale Summer Programme 2016

Call for Applications: NUS-in-Yale Summer Programme

Programme Dates

30 May – 1 July 2016

Description

The programme is a 5-week study stint at Yale University during its Summer Session A.

Selected NUS students will study and interact with Yale students, stay at Yale residential colleges and experience various aspects of Yale undergraduate life. Students will select two modules in the humanities and social sciences.

More details on the Yale Summer Session are available at http://summer.yale.edu (note that NUS-in-Yale refers to Yale Summer Session A only).

ELIGIBILITY:

This programme is open to Year 1 and 2 students of USP and USP partner faculties (BIZ, FASS, FOE, FOS, SDE, SOC and LAW), with a minimum CAP of 3.5 (Law students can disregard the CAP stipulation, since the Law faculty is not on the modular system).

Priority will be given to Year 2 students.

For selected USP students, substitution credit can be given for one inquiry tier USP module. The two modules taken at Yale may substitute for major/faculty requirements upon approval by the department or faculty; approval may be sought through the usual procedure for SEP module substitution. USP students are encouraged to further develop what they have learned in these programmes through supervised independent study.

For selected non-USP students, approval from home faculty or department should be sought for module substitution/mapping.

Cost

NUS provides a substantial student grant to cover the programme fees. Each student selected for this programme will:

  • Co-pay a sum of SGD 2,500; plus
  • Purchase and arrange his/her own return air ticket and visa.

As this programmes is already heavily subsidised, there will be no further NASA funding.

USP will advise on travel dates.

Application

Please apply HERE along with submission of the following:

  • A one-page Curriculum Vitae (name it as  ‘CV_YourName’)
  • An original essayof max 800 words (Name it as ‘Yale_YourName’). In this essay, describe a research problem in the humanities and/or social sciences. Explain in some detail why you think this problem makes for a good research topic, and briefly tell us how you might go about solving this problem.

As with all USP International Programmes, students need a minimum CAP of 3.5 to apply.

For Year 1 students with no CAP, please leave the CAP field blank.

Closing date: Tuesday 9 February

Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an interview.

FASStrack Asia: The Summer School 2016

Dear Students

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at the National University of Singapore is pleased to announce that the application for FASStrack Asia: The Summer School in June 2016 is now open till 15 March 2016.  If your interest is in Asia and all things Asian, FASStrack Asia will be perfect for you.

As one of the most modern and dynamic countries in the world, Singapore with its multi-cultural society is ideally positioned as a transnational hub within Asia, the fastest-growing region in the world today. The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, with its tradition of excellent teaching and strong research in Asian studies, is well poised to impart the critical skills necessary to understand this complex and vitally-important region. As Asia undergoes rapid developments, this summer school will offer a spotlight on the region for your better understanding of various related topics and issues.

Taught over a 5-week summer period (20 June – 22 July 2016), you will attend classes, participate in active discussions and go on field trips with academic experts. We offer courses in different disciplines such as Asian Studies, Sociology, Public Health, Cultural Studies as well as in Economics with special emphasis on various Asian regions. There are also Asian language classes on offer. Some of these courses feature an 8 to 10 days’ field trip to countries such as Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Myanmar and Thailand, as well as local field trips in Singapore. In addition, you will be joined by international students from top universities all over the world for the summer school.

There will be social events for student get-togethers and cultural exchange. You will have an opportunity to stay at UTown which house NUS residential colleges and combine living, studying and playing on-campus for a comprehensive and exciting summer experience in NUS.
