[Scholarship Application] AEI-ASEM Summer School 2017

The EU Centre together with its partners in the Jean Monnet Network on Challenges to Multiculturalism and Multilateralism (JMN-CMM) are supporting the 2017 AEI-ASEM Summer School on “Cultural Pluralism in Asia and Europe” (from 24 July to 11 August).

This 3-week Summer School with interactive learning modules and field trips in Malaysia and Belgium (Brussels and Bruges) will explore the broad theme of integration and multiculturalism.

Five Scholarship Grants Available for the Summer School!

The EU Centre is providing 5 grants for matriculated students from three Singaporean universities (NUS, NTU, SMU). Each Grant will cover the USD1000 fees for the Summer School plus a €300  travel subsidy. The USD1000 fees will cover course materials, accommodation, meals and cultural trips and activities in Malaysia and Belgium.

If you are interested in applying for the grant for the Summer School, please send in your CV, copy of transcript and a personal motivation letter (500-600 words) spelling out your interest on the theme of Cultural Pluralism in Asia and Europe.

DUO-Singapore Exchange Fellowship Award

The below is a message from the International Relations Office (IRO)

Dear NUS students,

The DUO-Singapore Exchange Fellowship Award by Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs aims to promote student exchanges between NUS and European ASEM members. The Award, based on merit, funds up to three pairs of students exchanges (3 incoming and 3 outgoing) between NUS and its respective partner university in Europe in any academic field. Each student will be  awarded 4,000 Euros, which will partially subsidise the cost of airfare, accommodation, living expenses, etc, for SEP. This award carries no obligatory bond period.

 

Applications for AY 2017/2018 are now open!

 

Criteria

NUS students with the following criteria are eligible to apply:

  • Are Singapore citizens/ permanent residents/ ASEAN citizens
  • Have been nominated for SEP to an NUS partner university in a European ASEM member country (Refer to the IRO website for the list of ASEM member countries which NUS has SEP partnership with)
  • Participating in SEP in Sem 1 and/or Sem 2 of AY2017/2018

 

Application Process

You need to submit BOTH an online and hardcopy application to IRO by Friday, 31 March 2017. More details are provided on the IRO website.

 

Please note that this deadline applies to ALL students going on exchange in AY 2017/2018.  Hence, students going on exchange in semester 1 and/or semester 2 are to apply now.

 

Late and incomplete applications will not be considered.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University Summer School 2017

The School of Humanities, Shanghai Jiao Tong University launched its SJTU Summer Session 2017 in July this year.

Application deadline: 30th April 2017

The programme dates of the summer school are: 6th July 2017-3rd August 2017 (4 weeks)

Credit: 4 credits

Application fee: RMB 400 (USD 60)

Whilst China has been undergoing a series of significant changes and challenges since the 1840s, the pioneering role of Shanghai has always been a microcosm of China’s developmental process. Telling China Story, from the perspective of Shanghai, to the globe would largely reflect on sociocultural changes towards Sino-foreign conflicts, urban development, literature and life narratives etc. This programme combines specialists from the School of Humanities in the fields of literature,history, and geography in order to advance students’ understandings of how China marches into the twentieth-first century.

Assessment
Performance and engagement in class, 60%
Fieldwork Report or Course Dissertation, 40%

14th Sino-Singapore Undergraduate Exchange Programme 2017

Dear students

This is a message broadcast on behalf of the Sino-Singapore Undergraduate Exchange Programme (SSUE).

SSUE is running again this year and it will be in is 14th cycle.

SSUE is a 4 weeks study trip (2 weeks in China and 2 weeks in Singapore) which aims to help NUS students gain a global perspective and a better understanding of China and its potential and also exposes Chinese students to aspects of Singapore life, education and culture.

Kwansei Gakuin University Intensive Japanese Culture Program

Dear Students, message from Kwansei Gakuin University.

Kwansei Gakuin University Intensive Japanese Culture Program offers students a 5 week program focused on learning/improving Japanese language skills, and discovering Japanese culture, will be open for application from students between 1 March to 31 March.

The program will be aimed at those with Upper-Elementary Japanese language skills, and will include language courses and culture courses through workshops conducted in Japanese. Therefore we require applicants to be at the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) N4-N5 level, details of which you will find more information on the following website: https://www.jlpt.jp/e/about/levelsummary.html

This program is open to students on a fee-paying basis at JPY290,000. It is an ideal program for those students who want to study in Japan, but are unable to come for a semester/year-long program, or would like to experience living in Japan, or aim to improve their Japanese language skills.
