Dear Students,

The NUS International Relations Office is pleased to invite you to apply for the ASEAN in Today’s World (AsTW) 2013 programme, hosted by Ateneo de Manila University (Philippines) from 22 February to 8 March 2013.

Who

Full-time NUS undergraduate students who also fulfill the organizers’ criteria (http://www.isc.kyushu-u.ac.jp/astw/appl.html)

What  

AsTW 2013 is an international programme co-organized by Kyushu University (Japan) and Ateneo de Manila University (Philippines), in cooperation with Mahidol University (Thailand) and Fukuoka Women’s University (Japan).

When

22 February to 8 March 2013 (2 weeks)

Why   

To attend classes in ASEAN studies and Asian languages/cultures, and discover the Philippines through field trips. At the end of the programme, credit and grades will be awarded by Kyushu University and an official transcript will be sent to the participants.

How

1)      Read attached flyer and consult AsTW website (http://www.isc.kyushu-u.ac.jp/astw/) for details.

2)      Follow instructions on application website (http://www.isc.kyushu-u.ac.jp/astw/appl.html) and apply directly to organizers. Programme fee is JP¥ 133,000 and the application deadline is November 16, 2012.

3)      15 Scholarship grants will be awarded by the organizers to qualifying students from ASEAN universities on a first-come first-serve basis.

Travel Grant

IRO is pleased to support up to 2 accepted participants with a travel grant to offset the cost of air travel, on a first-come-first-served basis. Accepted participants who wish to apply should be full-time NUS undergraduates. Please email the acceptance letter/email and your student ID number to Ms Leong Wai Yee (irolwy@nus.edu.sg) to apply.

Call for Application: INNOVATE 2013 – BEIJING & SHANGHAI

INNOVATE 2013 – BEIJING & SHANGHAI

(8 – 17 March 2013)

INNOVATE is an international academic immersion for engineering, science and business students, organised by the University of Pittsburgh, USA. To be held in the dynamic Chinese cities of Beijing and Shanghai in 2013, participants will examine the relationship between technology, globalisation, and leadership in the contemporary marketplace, with a focus on Asian economies. Through company site visits and meetings with key business, academic and government leaders, INNOVATE will help prepare participants to become tomorrow’s industry leaders.

1. What is the programme fee?

The estimated fee of participation is SGD 3,430 and includes airfare, ground transport, accommodation in 3/4-star hotels, most meals, company site tours, related events, cultural tours and special events, insurance, visa fees and personal expenses.  Eligible students can apply for financial assistance under the NASA Enhancement Bursary or Scholarship scheme.  Please visit the programme webpage for a detailed breakdown of the estimated costs and information about financial assistance.

2. Am I eligible to participate?

  • Undergraduates who are currently in Year 2 and above of their studies at NUS.
  • Must not be graduating at the end of Semester 2, AY 2012/13 or earlier.
  • Business, Engineering or Science majors.
  • Have a CAP of 3.0 and above.

3. How do I apply?

  • Check with your home faculty about the  need to apply for Leave-of-Absence to participate in this programme.
  • Complete the attached IRO Programme Application Form.
  • Attach a copy of your latest unofficial NUS transcript (downloadable via MyISIS).
  • Submit your application via email to irook@nus.edu.sg by 5pm on Monday, 12 November 2012
  • IRO will nominate eligible applicants to the University of Pittsburgh.

Business China Youth Chapter – China Learning Journey

BUSINESS CHINA YOUTH CHAPTER – CHINA LEARNING JOURNEY (13 – 22 DEC 2012; BEIJING)

Participate in the China Learning Journey organised by Business China (www.businesschina.org.sg/en.php) this December to gain a holistic view of the business environment in this Asian economic giant, while building new friendships and networks.

Taking place in the capital city of Beijing, highlights of the trip include visits to large companies (Singapore-owned, China-owned or joint-ventures), the Tianjin Eco-City and historical monuments. Participants will also engage their peers from Chinese universities (Peking University, Tsinghua University, University of International Business and Economics) in student forums, on a wide variety of topics ranging from politics to the arts.

China Learning Journey Fact Sheet

1. What is the programme fee?

The programme fee of SGD 600 is heavily subsidised by Business China and China Hanban.  It includes airfare, ground transport, accommodation and most meals. Participants will be responsible for insurance, visa fees (if any) and personal expenses.

2. Am I eligible to participate?

  • This programme is open to Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents only.
  • Undergraduates who are currently in Year 2 and above of their studies at NUS.
  • Must not be graduating at the end of this semester.
  • Have a CAP of 3.5 and above.
  • Strong interest and knowledge about China-related issues preferred.

3. How do I apply?

Complete the attached IRO application form and email it to irojt@nus.edu.sg by 12 noon on Monday, 29 October 2012.  Attach a copy of your latest unofficial NUS transcript.  Additional supporting documents showing your participation in events (and interest) on China-related issues will be helpful to your application.  Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

5. About Business China

Business China was launched in November 2007 by then Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.  It is a platform integrating language, economic and cultural elements.  The mission of Business China is to nurture an inclusive bilingual and bi-cultural group of Singaporeans through extensive use of the Chinese language as the medium of communication, so as to sustain Singapore’s multicultural heritage, and to develop a cultural and economic bridge linking the world and China.

Kwansei Gakuin University receives MEXT Global 30 Plus Grant

Congratulations to Kwansei Gakuin University, our faculty level partner university, for being awarded the MEXT Global 30 Plus Grant!

Kwansei Gakuin University has been selected by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) as a recipient for the Project for Promotion of Global Human Resource Development (Global 30 Plus) Grant.

KGU was chosen for Type-A funding by the government to establish university-wide initiatives to bring more students abroad, create competent world citizens, and to act as a role-model for other universities to follow.

The NUS-Wuhan University Winter Programme 2012 is now open for application!

This customized University-wide winter programme, jointly offered by NUS and Wuhan University, is divided into 4 parts and co-taught by professors from both NUS and Wuhan University. Topics that will be discussed includes Chinese cultural traditions, Chinese World Order, Chinese economy, Environmental issues and Legal System in contemporary China. Besides visits to local historical sites and museums, study trips outside Wuhan will also be organized, including field trips to the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, the Earthquake Zone and the Giant Panda Breeding and Research Centre in Sichuan; and excursions to Suzhou to study Chinese gardens and folk culture.
