Have you started thinking about where you want to go on Student Exchange? Have an idea but need to find out more about it?

The best people to find out from are of course your fellow PEERS who have been there, done that and have all the info you could possibly need!

NUS Peer Advising is organizing an Exchange Fair where you’ll get to meet NUS Students who have returned from exchange and Exchange Students who want to tell you more about their home universities.

Call for application: U21 Summer School (7-18 July 2012) – Tecnólogico de Monterrey, Mexico

The International Relations Office (IRO) is pleased to invite you to apply for the 2012 Universitas 21 (U21) Summer School, hosted by Tecnólogico de Monterrey, Mexico, from 7 – 18 July 2012. This year’s theme focuses on shaping the global future entrepreneur, who will be a key actor in economic development at both the national and global levels.

 The U21 Summer School is open to full-time 2nd and 3rd year undergraduate students (excluding graduating students) from any school/ faculty/ discipline. Applicants should possess a good command of the English language, be thoughtful and mature in their outlook, and be able to act as effective ambassadors of NUS. Please find more information regarding the Summer School in the attached information sheet.

 Up to five successful applicants from NUS will participate in the Summer School and receive summer school grants from IRO to help offset the cost of registration fee (which covers accommodation, organized meals and field trips), airfare and visa fee (if applicable).

Application forms and supporting documents should be submitted electronically to u21@nus.edu.sg by Friday, 9 March 2012. Interviews for shortlisted candidates will be held during the week of 19 – 23  March 2012, unless otherwise notified, and final decisions will be made by 26 March 2012.

Summer Institute at the Graduate School of Social Sciences of the University of Amsterdam

The end of 2011 is approaching fast and despite the fact that it is getting quite cold here in Amsterdam, we are already looking forward to our summer session 2012! The Summer Institute at the Graduate School of Social Sciences of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) will offer a variety of intensive summer courses in a number of academic fields.

Each year the UvA selects a couple of summer courses to offer to students from partnerinstitutions. To promote these programmes International Student Affairs will provide 10 scholarships of €400 for students from U21 universities and preferred partnerinstitutions, which includes your university. Please note that the scholarship is only available for eligible students (please read attached flyer for entrance requirements) and on a first come first serve basis; the first 10 eligible students to apply will be awarded with the scholarship.

Please refer to the list below for the selection of summer courses open to students from your institution:

  • Global Poverty & Inclusive Development is a one week programme for Postgraduate and Phd students. With this program, students will become familiar with the Moving out of Poverty Framework developed by Deepa Narayan – an internationally known expert on poverty and author of Voices of the Poor and Moving out of Poverty. The tuition fee will be 850 Euro. www.gsss.uva.nl/sip
  • Sexuality, Culture and Society is an intensive four-week programme for graduate/Master and PhD students which focuse on the study of sexuality across cultures. The tuition fee will be 2700 Euro. www.gsss.uva.nl/sis
  • Alcohol, Drugs and Addiction as a Global Problem is a two week programme for graduate/Master and PHD students which provide a multi disciplinary approach to the study of addiction. The tuition fee will be 1600 Euro. www.gsss.uva.nl/sia
  • Urban Studies: International Housing, Policy and Planning is a three-week program for undergraduate/Bachelor students with a focus on real urban contexts, the course will examine subjects such as architecture and neighbourhood design, housing finance and policy, urban sustainability and the impact of household and demographic change.   • Social Policies & Pragmatic Tolerance is a 3-week programme for undergraduate/Bachelor students on subjects such as immigration, drugs and sex work. The tuition fee will be 1400 Euro. www.gsss.uva.nl/sopo

Please note that tuition includes excursions, readers, and lunches on class days, access to the university libraries and computer facilities, and a city transport pass. The tuition does not include travel to and from Amsterdam or housing.

Leeds International Summer School 2012 – Applications and Scholarships

Greetings from Leeds! I am delighted to announce that applications to Leeds International Summer School (LISS) www.leeds.ac.uk/summer are open, with the addition of two new modules available to choose from.

 LISS is an enriching 4-week taster of British education and culture, combining world class tuition with local knowledge, experiential field trips and a wide variety of cultural and social activities. Students choose two 2-week modules from a choice of:

 (Block 1)

  • The English Country House – A Social History
  • Heretics, Witches & Conspirators: A History of Fear, 1500-1700 [New to 2012]
  • The Olympic Games – Sport in the UK

(Block 2)

  • British Literature and the Brontës
  • Building Britain, 1700-1840: Industrial ‘Revolution’ or ‘Evolution’? [New to 2012]
  • Popular Music in the North of England

 Programme Dates: 01 – 28 July 2012

 Field Trips and Social Excursions: we will be visiting many wonderful cities and places of interest on the school, including: Liverpool – home of the Beatles, the beautiful historic city of York, the picturesque village of Haworth and the surrounding Moors where the Brontë sisters grew up, outstanding stately homes such as Castle Howard (voted one of the Top 10 greatest mansions in the world by Lonely Planet), Olympic sports facilities in Manchester, a trip to Oxford (new to 2012) and more!

 Academic Credits: On completing the programme, LISS students can take home 20 Leeds University credits (= 6 US credits/10 ECTS).

 Early Application Offer: Applicants who apply before 16 March 2012 are entitled to a reduced programme fee.

We are offering a limited number of scholarships worth £1700 for students from our reciprocal exchange partners, covering full tuition costs, meaning those lucky scholarship winners have to pay only £900 to cover all excursions and entrance fees, module field trips, social activities and accommodation.  WUN Scholarships:
