[Stories of Hope] ARTivists for the Ocean

Hello explorers!

For today’s blog entry, I want to introduce the first of the series I’m calling, Stories of Hope. These stories are about how we can and have made great strides in education, legislation (translated into action), community effort and more.

The first one is about a lovely organisation called, PangeaSeed Foundation, that aims to bring culture and environmentalism together to the community by giving them opportunities to effect change for the oceans. One of their latest ventures was their Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans project where they brought in artists, well known for their contemporary artwork, from all around the world to paint murals advocating for the oceans. They recently turned these wall murals into downloadable, printable colouring sheets for World Oceans Day 2020 to bring these messages in a form of a colouring event. They currently have more than 350 murals globally in 15 countries!

Usually I notice a lot of action for conservation taking place in the policy changing, science, technology, education space but this is, at least to me, a very interesting approach. One that not only includes the art community but also shows people that art is a powerful medium.

I can’t attach a copy or image of the colouring sheet/murals here as Sea Walls mentioned that circulating the colouring sheets are not to be freely circulated. I have, however, attached a link to this post if you would like to check them out.
