5. Supporting NUS-Wide Initiatives

CANVAS Migration

NUS conducted a review of the available learning management systems (LMS) last year and recommended the adoption of Instructure Canvas as a replacement for the current LMS, LumiNUS. CDTL is managing the transition to Canvas and will be the system owner going forward. The transition is expected to allow for more intuitive engagement between faculty and students both inside and outside the classroom and foster pedagogical innovation on campus.

CDTL has prepared learning materials, conducted workshops and provided one-on-one consultations to assist in the transition. 1865 NUS colleagues have benefited from the training sessions, while another 1069 have benefitted from watching the workshop recordings. The transition team also provided 275 hours of one-on-one consultations and content migration support for 840 courses and answered 5480 email queries, and targeted faculty/school level briefings for 360 NUS colleagues. This change is an opportunity to move to a more intuitive LMS and engage the NUS community in valuable conversations about the effective use of LMS.

Blended Learning 2.0 (BL 2.0)

This initiative was developed to support our teaching-learning activities as we continue to leverage on online or hybrid learning to help improve student learning outcomes. Blended Learning 2.0 @NUS aims to provide an opportunity to design/redesign modules and courses through the flexible and meaningful integration of face-to-face teaching with online learning; and engage students to integrate and deepen their knowledge base through both face-to-face and online instructions. In 2022, a total of 64 modules were designed/re-designed for BL 2.0.
