Professional Development Programme-Teaching (PDP-T)

The Professional Development Programme-Teaching (PDP-T) is offered to NUS early-career academics with fewer than 3 years of higher education teaching experience. Conducted twice annually, the PDP-T provides a collegial environment to help new faculty explore and critically reflect on their teaching practice, in order to improve their students’ learning.

The programme comprises two components: the PDP-T Core and the PDP-T Seminar Series.

PDP-T Core

A 3-day programme which focuses on helping participants become more familiar with teaching and learning processes. Both our May and July 2022 PDP-T Core cohorts were offered in a blended format in which 74 colleagues participated. They completed pre-session activities (e.g., micro-lectures, infographics, audio podcasts, annotated presentations) before meeting for online group discussions. Based on feedback from previous cohorts, this year we moved both runs of the programme to be held during the summer break.

PDP-T Seminar Series

For all cohorts, the Series was also moved online, and participants took part in faculty learning communities that culminate in the completion of a teaching statement. These sessions aim to integrate and develop concepts and ideas introduced during the Core into the participants’ teaching practice.

Teaching Assistants’ Programme – Foundation (TAP–F)

The Teaching Assistants Programme-Foundation (TAP–F) is a self-paced and fully online course, and the mode of delivery is in the form of pre-recorded videos.  Besides the videos, there will also be related assessment tasks. The programme aims to enable Teaching Assistants (TAs) to apply the basic foundational teaching and learning skills in the roles and responsibilities that they will be assigned to as TAs.

Undergraduate Teaching Opportunities Programme (UTOP)

The Undergraduate Teaching Opportunities Programme (UTOP) is designed to help undergraduate students develop important competencies and practical skillsets that are relevant not only for them to contribute to the work force but also to be life-long learners, capable of critical, empathetic and independent thinking. UTOP is particularly suitable for undergraduate students who wish to acquire or hone their teaching skills under the supervision of experienced academic teachers.
