Sustainable beauty brands.

With the growing awareness of the responsibility of the beauty industry when it comes to packaging waste, how has the industry been taking steps towards mitigating this problem? While many beauty brands have been taking steps towards reducing their packaging waste, I’ll like to share two brands of which I personally am a fan.

Lush

Many of us are familiar with lush – the fragrant scent that we whiff in whenever we go by their stores, or their sparkly bath bombs that we see on Instagram stories. While the complete omission of packaging is nearly an impossible task, Lush attempts to reduce and reuse to cut unnecessary resource use. Their products are packaged in their black tubs, which are from post-consumer recycled content (PCR) to prevent the extraction of virgin resources. With their Bring it Back/Take Back program, consumers are also encouraged to do their part to recycle their used tubs. with a reward system in place, consumers are incentivised to do so.

The Green Collective SG

The Green Collective SG is an ecosystem of sustainable brand owners, conscious consumers, and businesses. True to their name, they are the first Southeast Asian collective concept and the largest aggregator of sustainable brands. One of the brands which I personally adore is Oasis Beauty. From their ingredients to packaging, their products are organic and have minimal waste. Similar to Lush, consumers are welcome to do their part as well. By opting for refills instead of purchasing a brand new product, it is economically sensible to do so as consumers are offered discounts.

Oasis Beauty’s Facial Clay Mask

While many of us may be guilty of generating one-time packaging waste from our beauty routine, why not start with swapping out one product at a time? Don’t forget to care for the environment, while caring for yourself.
