Hello! Welcome to my blog 🙂 I am Amanda, a Year 1 Environmental Studies (Biology) student at NUS! I’ll start off by introducing myself, I really love animals (hence the blog theme ^^), particularly dogs and cats. I’ve never had any pets of my own, so I decided to volunteer at an animal shelter during my vacation! Unfortunately, because of COVID-19, it had to be postponed. However, I was able to start volunteering when university started and it has been a rather fulfilling and rewarding experience.
What actually inspired me to embark on research on this topic was when I was bringing Choco (one of the dogs at the shelter) out for a walk. The amount of trash left on the grass was alarming. To the dogs, their weekly walks are what they usually look forward to.
It led me to think about how animals in the wild were suffering from pollution by humans and other anthropogenic activities. My blog will be discussing the if and how animal welfare concerns are related to environmental issues. I hope that I am able to provide you with new insights so that we are more well-informed to make environmentally-conscious decisions!

I’m excited to read your blog posts on animals because I’m a big fan of them too! May I know which animal shelter you are volunteering at, at how is it like volunteering there? I’m always interested in volunteering at animal shelters but haven’t gotten the chance to do so.

Hi Jo!
I’m currently volunteering at Animal Lovers League! I feel that it is especially gratifying to see the dogs wagging their tails at you after their walks and when they munch on the treats that you give to them. The cats are really affectionate as well! I guess the only part that I do not look forward to is cleaning their poop (it gets really stinky). If you have the opportunity to volunteer as well you should totally do so 🙂

I know this dog! In fact, he’s bitten me quite a number of times but all’s good. He’s a sweetheart inside! I’ve also been volunteering at Animal Lovers’ League for almost six years now and it’s great to meet someone else who’s volunteering there too. Maybe we’ve already seen each other but didn’t know it then! I’m really looking forward to reading more about your blog!
