The Alternative Energy Systems Laboratory (AESL) is a research group based in the Energy and Bio-Thermal Systems Division in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS).

This group is led by Assoc. Prof. Palani Balaya and focuses on addressing energy needs of the future by developing materials for Li-ion and Na-ion batteries and nano-structured solar cells and testing them in an academic setting.

Located in the sunny island state of Singapore, our research group enjoys the diversity of a multicultural group comprising researchers and students.
