Hi everyone, as seen in the previous blog post on why we should stoo buying new clothes. For this blog post, I would like to share on some ways we can reduce buying new clothes at the individual level.
Ways to reduce buying clothes and be sustainable at the individual level?
- Wash your clothes less- avoid the tumble drier
- Make your clothes last longer by washing in lower temperatures and repair when possible.
- Organise your wardrobe
- Opt for organic cotton clothes
- Avoid fabrics that use micro fibres- which often end up polluting oceans
- Never throw clothing in the Bin
- If they are still in good condition, donate them
- Recycle them
- Consume less
- Choose fabrics wisely
- Opt for those that are environmentally friendly that are less harmful to the environment
- When buying new clothes, stick to garments of high quality and avoid clothes that contain plastic materials.
Why is it important to reduce our waste from our wants that comes from the fashion industry? It is clear that consumerism particularly from the fashion industry is also killing our planet. We often are affected by our demand and the ever fast-changing industry increases our wants and make us only use the clothes and apparels used for a short term. To be able to transit into a more sustainable future, we need to change our consumer behavior and our everyday habits. With that said, it is high time to better take care of our clothes we have. Everyone can change their habit. What changes are you willing to make?
