Managed to chance upon this video which summarizes a lot of the things that i wanted to convey about marine plastic pollution. Rather than having to read through my unbearable prose, I thought that it’ll be a nice change for us to visualize the plastic pollution with our own eyes…

The video details how 17 youths from Hawaii learn about marine plastic pollution. The video covers several topics such as marine plastic debris, bioaccumulation and the impacts of plastic on marine life.

On a side note, i think that schools in Singapore should place more emphasis on imparting environmental knowledge. Schools should inculcate young students with the right environmental habits while they are still impressionable. If students are too fixated on practical knowledge, they may fail to appreciate the intrinsic value of nature in the future. Moreover, bad habits die hard. If children are reliant on disposable plastics, it may be difficult for them to adapt to a ‘plastic-less’ world in the future. For example, my grandfather fails/refuses to see the importance of using a recycling bag when he goes grocery shopping.
